Day Shift: Monday- Friday 7am - 3:30pm

Job Purpose:

The Controls Technician will maintain, adjust, improve, troubleshoot and repair electrical and controls equipment such as motors, motor control circuits, power distribution systems up to 600 VAC, sensors, instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), AC drives, DC drives, and servo drives. The Controls Technician assists the Controls Technician Team, Safety Team, Operations Team, Quality Team, and Engineering Team with the installation and design of new equipment including training, programming, sensors, and wiring for the purposes of Continuous Improvement in the Factory focusing on improving efficiency and decreasing Total Plant Cost. The Controls Technician will also lead and manage electrical and controls factory improvement projects.

What are we looking for?

  • Completion of a technical diploma program from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Associate's degree or certifications in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Industrial Electrician license (442A), or Instrumentation and Controls license (447A) are an asset.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in a maintenance environment
  • Team working skills at a variety of function levels.
  • A motivated, energetic, collaborative problem solver. Team-oriented, highly motivated, self-starter capable of completing tasks with limited direction.
  • Experience with equipment installation and integration
  • Proficient in the use of industrial mechanics tools, electrician's tools, instrumentation and controls tools.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Perform repairs, improvements, and adjustments to electrical and controls equipment with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Responsible for investigation and troubleshooting to a component level.
  • Utilize technical publications (equipment manuals, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams, P&IDs, Rockwell Knowledgebase Articles) to troubleshoot and maintain electrical and controls systems.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of facility electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Rockwell Software Platform
  • Functions independently in electrical controls on assigned equipment.
  • Safety/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Leader in adhering to safe work practices; Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, and all other plant safety requirements related to supporting machinery.
  • Will hold all team members accountable to adhere to safety & GMP practices.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics and ability to maintain and edit.
  • Lead the implementation of small scope projects in their assigned area.
  • Make improvements as required to electrical PM's on various manufacturing and packaging equipment, electrical panels, and document activities using computerized maintenance management system (SAP Plant Maintenance).
  • Participate in TPM Pillar projects as assigned.
  • Will effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and upper management on a daily basis, and be willing to provide support where needed and complete other duties as assigned by Team Leader.
  • Act as technical resource to operations, maintenance on controls related issues
  • Identify and recommend changes to improve plant performance utilizing existing or new control systems. Make program modifications in PLC's logic, HMI's programs and servo controller logic to improve equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze electrical and control system applications and make necessary modifications to get the systems up and running again
  • Support the introduction to the plant of new control technologies.
  • Assist in performing programming, testing, and debugging for new systems as well as for the enhancement of existing systems.
  • Provide system management and administrative functions for PC and PLC networks, data historians, software version control and web based data display systems.
  • Preform incremental programming initiatives and/or process changes to increase MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and reduce downtime. Work in concert with the operations team to perform breakdown analysis to identify and resolve the root cause of production issues negatively impacting KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Specifies adequate spare parts for control and instrumentation systems.
