Online Educational Assistant

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent 4 hours/day Online Educational Assistant. This position can be located in the following campuses with available space: Kenaston, Estevan, La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Neilburg, Saskatoon, Swift Current or Yorkton. The position will commence on August 26th, 2025, or a mutually agreed upon date if necessary.

Sask DLC is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation, created to deliver high-quality and equitable online learning programs to students across the province. Sask DLC's head office is located in Kenaston, with an administrative office in Regina, and regional campuses located in Estevan, Kenaston, La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Neilburg, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Yorkton.

Online Educational Assistant Summary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Campus Principal, Online Educational Assistants provide a range of support services that help students to achieve their academic, social, physical and personal potential. Online Educational Assistants aid students with intensive needs by providing support for developing life skills and experiences, academic support, communication, and behavioral support as required by students and directed by teachers in an online environment.

Focused on delivering a quality online educational experience, this position requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, considerable experience in relevant technology, understanding of the challenges of online learning, and the ability to work independently with respect to carrying out the duties assigned in a challenging and fast paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Contacting and enrolling full-time online students into courses, maintaining student graduation plan data to meet Ministry of Education requirements as well as incorporate courses for admission requirements to post -secondary programs;
  • Work independently in an online delivery model.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to establish rapport.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor and work collaboratively as a team.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Orientates new students to classroom procedures and expectations, logging in, and how online learning works within their classroom environment.
  • Model expectations and best practices for online learners, including having cameras on during meetings.
  • Demonstrate an ability to adapt to the changing needs of students;
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of diverse learning supports; and,
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills and strategies to effectively support the needs of students.
  • Work as a collaborative member of a team that may include Classroom teachers, Student Support Teachers, Student Support Consultant, Principal and/or other professional staff.
  • Provide assistance in the delivery and implementation of educational programs and services that facilitate the integration, growth, learning, safety and comfort of students with additional instruction and intensive needs.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate student records by documenting daily progress on targeted goals for individual student plans across multiple platforms.
  • Support student achievement by implementing teacher direction and working virtually to assist students in whole-class settings, one-on-one, and in small groups.
  • Provide support for students with special needs, learning disabilities, special programming requirements, and health or behaviour-related challenges.
  • Encourage students to communicate with their teachers and stay on task;
  • Demonstrate empathy when checking in and providing support for students while also celebrating and acknowledging success;
  • Participate in parent-student-teacher meetings when requested.
  • Coordinate, organize or schedule, and proctor exams.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned by the Campus Principal or Vice-Principal and/or assigned Student Support Teacher.

Required Technical Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma in combination with work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Candidates with previous experience working with individuals with learning or cognitive challenges and/or post-secondary education in a related field, such as an Educational Assistant Certificate, would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced computer skills and experience using a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Clevr, etc.).
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and proficiently complete multiple tasks while dealing with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • An energetic team player whom tactfully and respectfully supports students and colleagues to promote a positive work environment.

Employment Conditions:

  • Office environment/setting.
  • Typical core office hours (8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) Monday to Friday.

What We Offer

Salary (Level 3 $22.40/hr to $24.95/hr) and benefits for this position will be in accordance with C.U.P.E. 5544 Collective Agreement September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.
