AJISS Obsolescence Support Specialist (New Graduate) (Finance)



Location: Ottawa, Canada

This is a Hybrid role in Ottawa, ON. This role can be located in Dartmouth, NS (east coast) or Victoria, BC (west coast)

Position Summary

The AJISS Obsolescence Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the AJISS/MWAV obsolescence program for the AJISS and MWAV Classes of ships. The AJISS Obsolescence Support Specialist is dedicated to the proactive identification, monitoring and resolution of obsolescence issues that could affect the ships during their ‘in service' phase as well as the reactive research and resolution of various equipment or spares related issues identified by the Supportability, Engineering and Procurement teams.

•    Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
•    Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct  access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
•    Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level

Key Areas of Responsibility 

•    Track the systems, equipment, hardware, firmware and software fitted onboard the AJISS/MWAV Class platforms and identify when any of them approaches or reaches obsolescence. 
•    Conduct research of assigned materiel issues by reviewing Technical Data Packages, Materiel Data Sheets, contacting the Original Equipment Manufacturers and propose options for problem resolutions. 
•    Carry out periodic analysis of the systems, equipment, hardware, firmware and software fitted onboard the AJISS/MWAV Class platforms and identify existing or emerging/potential obsolescence risks.
•    Collaborate with the members of the Supportability section and use Logistic Support Analysis methods to develop strategies to identify and mitigate obsolescence in AJISS/MWAV Systems, equipment, hardware, firmware and software. 
•    Collaborate with the members of the Supportability, Engineering, Configuration Management sections and the Customer to address technical data package updates resulting from obsolescence and/or material changes. 
•    Support the conduct of obsolescence issue risk/priority assessments. t
•    Assist in the coordination and record keeping of Obsolescence meetings. 
•    Apply engineering principles, develop technical solutions and prepare technical reports. 

Basic Qualifications

•    New graduate of Bachelor of Engineering Degree or 2 year Engineering Technology diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Naval Architecture or three years of demonstrated experience in the last 10 years in a related Administrative, Financial or Procurement field.

•    Language: English (Essential)

Other experience that is preference,

•    Work term related to material support function in naval environment

Physical Demands
•    Predominantly office work but will be required to work in dockyards and onboard Naval ships
•    Maybe required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting

Special Position Requirements 
•    Schedule: 40 hours per week
•    Physical Environment: Hybrid position – which is a mix of working from home and onsite (in office, at customer site or on board ships alongside in harbour) 
•    Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel maybe required in support of the ships
